Using Channel Selector in VCM Scanner


Click the Channel Selector icon at the top of the Channels list to open the tool for managing, filtering, and adding channels to customize data logging.


Channel Search and Filtering


1. Data Type Filters

  • Click an icon to toggle channels by data type. Currently-displayed types are marked with a blue box:
    • Scalar: Channels providing numerical data
    • Switch: Channels with selectable options
    • Flag: Channels indicating True/False or On/Off status

2. Polled / Broadcast Channel Filters

  • Toggle display for polled or broadcast channels. Selected types are highlighted with a blue box:
    • Polled Channels
    • Broadcast Channels

3. Sort Order

  • Choose how channels are displayed by selecting one of the following:
    • Sort by Section
    • Sort by Channel Name
    • Sort by Channel ID

4. Tree Expansion

  • Use these icons to collapse or expand the entire channel list:
    • Collapse All Items
    • Expand All Items

5. Filter By Channel Name

  • Use the Text Filter box to search and filter displayed channels by name as you type.


Control Module Headers


6. Vehicle Control Modules

  • Each heading displaying the control module  icon represents a vehicle module (e.g., ECM or TCM) that provides data via the OBD-II port. These headings show:

    • Module Type
    • Module Address
    • Model Number
    • Operating System ID
  • Channels listed under these headings are module-specific. See Adding OBD Port Channels for more information.


Channel Highlights and Icons


7. Already Added

  • Channels with a blue background are already added to the Channels list.

8. Channel Data Type Icons

  • Icons in front of each channel name indicate the data format:
    • Scalar: Numerical data
    • Switch: Selected option from a list
    • Flag: True/False or On/Off indication

9. Broadcast Channels

  • Channels with a green icon background are broadcast channels, preferred for adding minimal processing load. (Applies only to OBD port channels; external inputs are unaffected.) See Adding OBD Port Channels for details.

Attributes for Selected Channel


13. ID

  • Displays the selected OBD channel’s numerical ID.

14. Type

  • Shows the type of the selected OBD channel.

15. Size

  • When a polled channel is selected, displays its size (in bytes).

16. Sensor

  • Indicates the type of sensor for the selected OBD channel.
