Layouts in VCM Scanner
Layouts control how panels are arranged in VCM Scanner’s main display area. Three types of panels can display live vehicle data or log file data, each offering a unique graphical format for analysis.
Panel Types:
Gauge Panel
Gauge panels show sensor data and/or PIDs as gauges arranged in a cluster. For more on using and customizing gauge panels, see Gauge Panel.Graph Panel
Graph panels present sensor data and/or PIDs in a table format, ideal for gathering sample data to populate tables in VCM Editor. For usage and customization, see Graph Panel.Chart vs. Time Panel
This panel charts sensor outputs or PIDs over time, useful for tracking values on a timeline. See Chart vs. Time Panel for more details.
Note: All panels are highly customizable and can display any data provided by the channels you set up.
Customizing Layouts:
To adjust your layout:
- Remove a Panel: Click the X in the upper-right corner of the panel.
- Add a Panel: Go to Layout > Add to Layout in the menu bar.
- Resize Panels: Drag the border between panels to adjust their size.
- Move Panels: Rearrange the panels on the display. For details, see Arranging Layouts.
- Customize Panel Contents: Right-click on any panel and choose Layout to configure its contents. For detailed customization instructions, see the sections on each panel type.
Note: To display a value in any panel, it must have an input from the Channels display or a math parameter. Adding values to a layout does not automatically add them to Channels. - Style a Panel: Right-click on a panel, select Display Properties, and customize its appearance. See individual panel sections for more instructions.
Saving a Layout:
To save your current layout, including panel size, position, and custom settings:
- In the toolbar, click the Save Layout icon.
- Enter a name for the layout file and click Save.
Loading a Saved Layout:
To load a previously saved layout:
In the toolbar, click the Open Layout icon.
Choose Open Layout.
Recently used layout files will appear below as shortcuts.Browse for the saved layout file and click Open.
Loading a Default Layout:
To open one of the pre-defined layouts available in the menu:
- Go to Layout > Default Layouts in the menu bar.
- Select your preferred layout from the list.
