MPVI3 and RTD Gen 3

When using VCM Suite to read or write information to a vehicle, you’ll need an interface device. This device translates the many protocols used by vehicle on-board computing systems into the single protocol used by HP Tuners software.

Current Interface Devices

  1. MPVI3
  2. RTD Gen 3

Both devices require VCM Suite 5.0 (or later) for full functionality.

Compatibility with Older Devices

Older interface devices, such as the MPVI, MPVI2, and MPVI2+, are still supported by VCM Suite but do not include the full range of features available in the MPVI3.

MPVI3

The MPVI3 is HP Tuners' latest and most advanced interface device. Designed specifically for tuners, it supports the full range of features in both the VCM Suite and the TDN (Tuner Delivery Network) app for mobile devices.

Key Features:

  • Improved Storage and Processing: Twice the storage capacity and a faster processor compared to the MPVI2+.
  • Built-in Accelerometer: Now includes a high-resolution accelerometer for detailed vehicle data logging.
  • Pro Feature Set Included: Comes standard with Pro Features. To attach external sensor inputs, you’ll need the Pro Link+ cable (sold separately).

External sensor inputs provide valuable insight into what’s happening under the hood, enabling more precise diagnostics and tuning.

RTD Gen 3

The RTD Gen 3 (Remote Tuning Device) is ideal for tuners who provide customers with remote tuning capabilities.

Key Features:

  • Allows customers to read tuning files from their vehicle and exchange them with their tuner for adjustments.
  • Supports the TDN app, enabling seamless remote communication between customers and tuners.
  • Fully functional with VCM Scanner for advanced data logging.
  • VCM Editor is NOT supported by the RTD Gen 3.

Pro Feature Set:

  • When combined with the Pro Link+, this device allows users to attach additional sensor inputs for valuable under-the-hood data.

Availability:

  • In North America, the RTD Gen 3 is available only through direct sales to select high-volume tuning customers. These devices often carry the tuner's company branding and are not sold under the HP Tuners brand.

Important Notes

  • Setup and Usage: Other than the differences noted above, the initial setup and usage for the RTD Gen 3 is identical to the MPVI3. Follow MPVI3 setup instructions unless otherwise noted.
