Credits 101

Modified on Mon, 15 Apr at 10:29 AM

In addition to an HP Tuners interface device (such as MPVI2, 2+, or 3), you will need to purchase a license for each vehicle you want to tune. Licenses are purchased with HP Tuners Universal Credits.

What are credits?

Credits are the currency HP Tuners uses to sell licenses for specific vehicles for tuning. A license is tied to a vehicle's VIN, Serial number of the controller and Operating System on the controller and allows the interface device to write your modified tune files back to the licensed vehicle. Unlicensed vehicles cannot be tuned with an HP Tuners interface.  Most vehicles require between 2 and 6 credits to license. Universal credits can be used for any vehicle we support, regardless of year, make, and model. Older MPVI units used brand-specific credits. Those credits are still valid and will be accepted if they have not been used.

How to purchase credits?

After you register your device at www.hptuners.com, you'll be able to purchase credits. You will log into your customer account, click "Welcome" on the top right corner then click "My Devices".

After you click "My Devices" you will select "Add Credit" next to the device you would like to purchase credits to.

Recovering Credits

Due to security concerns, we cannot transfer credits from one interface to another. However, if you are upgrading a device by exchanging the old one, we will transfer the credits to the new interface. Also, we may be able to transfer credits in the case of a lost or stolen device. Contact Support for more information.
