Credits 101
What Are Credits?
Credits are the currency used by HP Tuners to purchase licenses for tuning specific vehicles. A license is tied to three key pieces of information:
- VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
- Serial Number of the controller
- Operating System (OS) on the controller
Once a vehicle is licensed, your HP Tuners interface device can write modified tune files back to that specific vehicle. Unlicensed vehicles cannot be tuned.
Key points:
- Most vehicles require between 2 and 6 credits to license.
- Universal Credits can be used for any supported vehicle, regardless of year, make, or model.
- Older MPVI units (e.g., MPVI) used brand-specific credits (e.g., GM, Ford, Dodge). These credits are still valid if unused.
