L5P and ZR1 ECM Installation Instructions

Before installing your upgraded L5P or ZR1 ECM, please follow these steps carefully.


Step 1: Download and Install the Latest VCM Suite BETA

  • The latest VCM Suite BETA can be found here.
  • Install the BETA version to ensure compatibility with your upgraded ECM.


Step 2: Perform the "Replace TCM" Special Function in VCM Scanner

  1. Connect VCM Scanner to the vehicle with the stock TCM installed.

    • Open Vehicle Controls & Special Functions.
    • Navigate to System > General and select Replace TCM.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the Replace TCM process for the stock TCM.
  2. Install the HP Tuners Upgraded TCM when prompted.

  3. Reconnect VCM Scanner with the upgraded TCM installed.

    • Open Vehicle Controls & Special Functions.
    • Navigate to System > General and select Replace TCM.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the Replace TCM process for the upgraded TCM.


Note: You will need the stock ECM to complete the first part of the "Replace ECM" special function.

  • If your stock ECM was sent in as part of an exchange program, please contact HP Tuners Support for assistance.


Step 3: Perform an Immobilizer Relearn


IMPORTANT: This step requires a GM dealer tool or SPS subscription

  1. Connect the dealer tool to the vehicle and follow the prompts in the software.
  2. Select "Immobilizer Learn".
  3. Select "Engine Control Module IMMO Learn".
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the relearn process.


Note: Previous instructions suggested disabling VATS via VCM Editor. However, doing so may result in Remote Start functionality being disabled.


Step 4: Perform a Crank Relearn

  1. Connect VCM Scanner to the vehicle and open Vehicle Controls & Special Functions.
  2. Ensure the vehicle is at operating temperature and that:
    • The parking brake is set.
    • The wheels are chocked.
    • The A/C is off.
    • The brake pedal is pressed.
  3. Click the Crank Relearn button (located under Engine > Special Functions).
  4. When prompted, gradually rev the engine to fuel cut, then release the accelerator pedal.
